Rocks and Worms
Students have started a rock unit. They enjoyed discovering what materails it takes to create a rock.

Dear Parents,
Did you know we went ice skating today? Just kidding but we have been really busy. First we are learning about rocks. Today we smashed rocks. It was fun. We found four different colors in the rock, green, light green, blue, and turquoise. We learned a rock is, an earth material made of many different ingredients. Minerals are only made of one ingredient. Also, in writing, we have been writing a story about what type of weather we like the most. All of us are doing very well and will finish it next week. Finally, we have been learning about inferences. An inference is a prediction about something that might happen in a story. In conclusion, even though we didn’t go ice skating, we have had a very fun week.

The Adventures of Evil Dr. Hobo
The Adventures of Evil Dr. Hobo
It was a dark spooky day in the year of 2021 in Eville when Evil Dr. Hobo,known as “E.D.H”, wanted to take over the world! E.D.H. went to his desk and took out a huge piece of paper. He began to write his plans for taking over the world. It was 2:00am when E.D.H. finished making his plans.
Suddenly a giant bolt of lightning split Evil Dr. Hobo's house in half.
Then he saw a shadow in the darkness of the night. Evil Dr. Dork stepped from the shadows. Evil Dr. Dork is an Evil genius that is trying to stop E.D.H. from taking over the world.
Evil Dr. Dork, also known as ,E.D.D, slowly pulled out his Super Soaker! He started pumping his Super Soaker as fast as he could then he noticed that there was no water in his Super Soaker. He asked E.D.H. if he had any water E.D.H. said “Sorry the lightning hit the water tank.
Then E.D.D. remembered that it was raining. E.D.D. ran outside and found a gutter and put his Super Soaker under it. The water fell into the tank of his Super Soaker and four minutes later E.D.D. finally noticed that his Super Soaker was filled.
Then he ran inside and snuck around the corner. Then he started pumping his Super Soaker as fast as he could. Then he jumped out and said, “Put your hands up. E.D.D. slowly amid the gun at E.D.H. He pulled the trigger and missed E.D.H. Instead the water hit E.D.H plans. When the water hit the plans the writing on the plans faded away. Evil Dr. Dork’s mission was finished. Evil Dr. Hobo couldn’t take the world over without his plans. Evil Dr. Dork became a hero and was famous for saving the world like Ozzie Osborn.

“What’s up dude” said Giant to Road Rash. It was a hot summer day on the continent of Australia. Road Rash turned to Sunny and said “Let’s have a tournament to see whose board is best.” “Ok” said Sunny, and they went to the skate park. Around the skate park there were millions and millions of people but most of them were kids. First Sunny went. Everybody was silent. His tricks were slow just like he was in slow motion. Sunny went in the air. Now it was time for Road Rash. He did a back flip in the air. Everybody was wondering who won the competition. The speaker hissed. It was time for the announcements. The crowd started to count 10, 9, 8, 7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0. Road Rash won boomed the speaker. Woo! The crowd went wild. “Oh would you just shut up” Sunny said. Road Rash returned home happy that he won the contest with an amazing finish!

Winter Days
WINTER DAYS

In 2050 in winter there was three people who where friends. They where going to play in Lexiville. Alyssa and Will where looking for Cole. But he was snow boarding. And had a horrible crash. “Let’s go find Cole” said Will. Alyssa said “Cole! Cole! COOOOOLLLLLEEEEE!”
It was silent. I think I broke my leg”. Cried Cole. Alyssa remembered her cell phone in her pocket. Alyssa reached into her pocket, grabbed her phone, and pressed 911. She heard ringing and waited. Finally a friendly voice answered and asked “What’s your emergency?” “My friend broke his leg. Send help right away.”
The Ambulance came right a way. Three men came out of the car.” We think Cole broke his leg.” said Will. “Ok we can take him to the hospital.” Replied the ambulance man. “What! We want to come.” “Ok, all three of you need your parents.” said the ambulance man. “I do.” said Alyssa. “Me too.”, said Will. “Mom”, Alyssa cried.
Alyssa was crying “I will miss Cole.” “Me too.” Said Will.
Later they arrived at the hospital. “Now we are at the hospital.” “Follow me and we will let you stay with Cole.” Said the ambulance driver.
When they were in the room they saw three beds. All three beds were made the way they liked their bed. Will liked soft. Alyssa liked hard. Cole liked puffy. They put Cole to sleep.
He got surgery that night. Now they are heading home. Cole has a cast. “Its still hurts! See uh .” said Cole. As his friends walked away. The next time they go sledding they will make sure that everyone is there.

Lost forever

In the summer of 2004 Jack and Sam planned to escape. Jack said “Let’s escape from this stinky town.” Sam thought for a moment after his thought he said “What if we get lost” Jack said grumpily “We will never get lost we are just going on a vacation. Do you want to sit in a stinky town like this?” Than Sam agreed and tricked Jack and said “Don’t be a dork. Jack ran with Sam. It wasn’t that easy because a drunk man almost hit them with his car. Hours later they were in the forest.
Suddenly they realized that they were lost. Now they started to argue whose fault it was. It was Jacks fault for sure. Then they both said “Goodnight.” The next day the sun shone higher than the white clouds. Jack and Sam woke up and behind them there were 55 hound dogs that had sharp teeth and foam falling from their mouths. Jack and Sam ran and they hid under an oak tree. Sam threw a stick in the river. Then the dogs started to chase the stick. A big wave made them all sink. A while later Jack found 10,000,000 dollars under the oak tree. Then a store caught Sam’s eye Jack shouted “It’s opened!” They hadn’t eaten for 6 hours so they ran to the store and gave the owner the money and the owner said! Your reward is to live here and eat anything you want Jack and Sam shouted! “Thank you! Thank you!”
Then the owner ran happily out of the store. Now there was nobody in the store so they both ate chips, ice cream, and cake. The best foods were Pepsi root beer floats, and pizza. Then Jack remembered his parents and reminded Sam about the loss. Sam was the first one to cry, then Jack started to whine. A few seconds later they were okay and they agreed to be lost forever and lived happily ever after.

It was a terrific day in 1880 in the large town called Chinaville. Jacque and Chad were planning to get married and had to get the stuff for the wedding. Later on at the China store, Chad and Jacque were beginning to plan the wedding. Jacque asked Chad, “What do you want eat at the wedding.” Chad answered “Cake.” “Ok let’s buy a cheesecake with vanilla frosting,” said Jacque.
After buying the cake they went to the car. Chad tripped on a large rock, fell on the pavement, and bumped into Jacque .Jacque dropped the cake and it flew into the air. Chad started to cry. Jacque began to cry lying on the pavement with Chad, and the cake was ruined.
It was silent, peaceful and quiet. “The wedding is ruined,” cried Jacque. They got off the pavement. Chad went back in the store and bought a ring that cost $1,000. Chad stepped out of the store, tripped and the ring flew up in the air .The sun came out, the ring flew with beautiful sparkling light and landed in the Chinaville sewer hole. Jacque started to cry. They got into the car muddy and gushy.
Finally they arrived at the wedding. They got out of the car and walked up where the people were. Everyone laughed at them with a smile because they were muddy. Chad and Jacque were mad at the people. During the ceremony the pastor said they were already married. It was silent, peaceful and quiet. They were married and kissed anyway.

Craten did you put the missile-toe up?” Asked Mom, “Um…yeah.” said Craten. “Ok I’ll go see!” said Mom. “Wait until the old hippie goes in and gets hit by my missile with a toe!” thought Craten, “OHHH MAMA!!!” YELL…

yelled Mom, “MWAAAAHAHAHA!!!” CHUCKELED…

Dear Parents,
How have you been doing this week? We have been having a great time. First we have been studying hard about our insects. We are trying to finish our posters by Tuesday of next week. Many of us are started and our posters will have lots of interesting information on them.
Math has been awesome this week. We have been practicing how to subtract 6 and 5. We also took a test this week and everyone did very well. In fact almost the entire class passed their fact test.
Another thing we did this week is we had a town hall meeting. At the town hall meeting we sang our continent song for the entire elementary. We sounded like rock stars! Everyone loved us and asked for our autographs.
As you can see we have had a busy week and are looking forward to the weekend.

Winter Fun
It was a winter wonderland at Badger Mountain in the lodge. There were two girls riding in the snow cat. The girl’s names were Taylor and Haley. Taylor and Haley were looking forward to a great day of skiing. After a short ride, Haley and Taylor got out of the snow cat together and went to the lodge.
Then the girls went over to go get some candy and Haley got M&Ms and Taylor got Snickers. Then they ate their candy.
“Haley do you want to go skiing with me?” asked Taylor. “Sure let me get ready.” replied Haley. “I will wait for you.” said Taylor. “Ok.” said Haley. "Ok lets go" shouted Taylor.
“Yeah come on” said Haley. Then Taylor and Haley walked outside to get their skis in a snow pile. They picked up their skis, placed them on the ground, and stepped into them. They got on the T-bar and headed towards the A-hill.
A couple of minutes later they got to the A-hill.
They started down the hill. Haley was going down the slope. Taylor was at the top of the hill and started going extremely fast, she was going so fast that she couldn’t stop. She was a little bit behind Haley. Uh, oh! Taylor could not control herself. CRASH!!!
Taylor crashed into Haley. Haley flew into the air, her skies fell from her feet, and then she crashed on her head. Then Taylor skied all the way down the A-hill to go get a grown-up. The grown-up said” What’s the matter? Taylor said “I accidentally ran Haley, over with my skis.” Then Taylor and the grown-up raced to Haley. The grown-up put Haley in a sled and pulled her down to the lodge. They checked on Haley and then took Haley to the Doctor. The Doctor took an x-ray and found out that she was ok. So the girls went back to the lodge and went skiing again. At the end of the day Haley and Taylor felt happy.

The grown-up said” What’s the matter? Taylor said “I accidentally ran Haley, over with my skis.” Then Taylor and the grown-up raced to Haley. The grown-up put Haley in a sled and pulled her down to the lodge. They checked on Haley and then took Haley to the Doctor. The Doctor took an x-ray and found out that she was ok. So the girls went back to the lodge and went skiing again. At the end of the day Haley and Taylor felt happy.

The Last Day of Summer
It was a very sunny day in the year 2009 in the small town Rosebush. Ten year old Rose was sitting in her house with her eleven year old brother Peter. They were both very sad.
After breakfast Rose and Peter talked, “I am so sad it’s the last day of summer.” Rose sighed. “I know I’m sad too.” Peter responded. Rose wondered. “What are we going to do now?” “I don’t know.” Peter thought. “I have an idea for what we can do.” Rose excitedly said. “What?” Peter asked. “We can be rock stars.” Announced Rose. “Sure we can rock the house.” “Yep we can rock the house.” Rose repeated excitedly after Peter. “But what are we going to use for instruments.” Rose sighed again. “I think I could ask my old friend down town.” “Ok.” Rose giggled. “Let’s go together so we can both pick our instruments.” Rose replied. “I wonder how many instruments she has?” Peter wondered.
As Peter and Rose walked down the street they came upon a blue house. “This is it!” Peter told Rose. “Lets go inside” Rose gulped. As Peter opened the door, Rose was amazed “Wow.” Rose said as she dropped her mouth open she stared at all the instruments on the walls and ceiling.
“Hi.” said a voice, it was Marry. “Hi.” Peter whispered shyly. “Can we borrow some instruments?” Rose pleaded. “Sure.” Agreed Marry. “Pick anyone.” “Thanks” Peter yelled excitedly.
“But how can we pick just one?” Rose wondered. “You’ll just have to feel it.” Marry responded. “Cool.”
“I want the electric guitar.” Peter decided. “O.k.” Said Marry. “I want the flute.” Rose replied. “O.k. Marry excitedly said. “Robot Robo one electric guitar and one flute!”
“Coming up!” Marry yelled to Rose and Peter. Robo beeped as his robotic arms reached for an instrument on the wall.
“Now let’s go.” Peter hurried along. “First we need to invite everyone over.” “I can do that.” Marry responded quickly. “Robo” “Beep.” “Ok Robo lets send letters to everyone in town.” “Hurry.” Marry yelled.
Soon everybody heard the news. They hurried to the town square. Very soon Rose and Peter started to rock the house.

School Day Adventures
School Day Adventures
It was a cold fall day of 2015 in the small school of Evilville. But… Emma and Chad would not do their work so Mr. Martin couldn’t go eat his lunch. Emma and Chad didn’t care about school or school work, so they couldn’t go play outside in the newly fallen snow. However when Mr. Martin left the room Emma and Chad ran outside to recess.
After Emma and Chad left to go to recess, Mr. Martin came back from his lunch and picked up his class from recess. As soon as they came in Emma and Chad’s class heard a strange sound coming from the closet. Suddenly the class all screamed “WE’RE GONNA DIE!!”
After Mr. Martin calmed his class down the creature came all the way out of the closet. The creature had glowing red eyes, a huge slimy head, and a body that looked like a frog. Then Mr.Science the science teacher came rushing into the room. Mr.Martin said “Thank goodness you’re here.” Hopelessly. “I have made a terrible mistake” cried Mr. Science. “I’ve made a monster that has glowing red eyes, a huge slimy head, and a body that looks like a frog!" “You mean that thing that came out of the closet?” questioned Chad. “Yes the thing that come out of the closet” Mr. Science said sarcastically. “The only way to stop it is to uh oh um I forgot.” “YOU WHAT?” yelled Emma. “I forgot.” Said Mr. Science in a weak voice. ”Well maybe we could try shooting it.” Suggested Chad. “No that won’t work”weeped the science teacher. “Maybe it just needs a special medicine.”
Said Emma. “That just might work.” said Mr. Science, “Everybody quick to the science room!” yelled Mr. Martin

About an hour later the medicine was done. “Now if only I could get a volunteer.” Said Mr. Science. “I will feed that ugly creature!” Yelled Chad. “Okay but you have to be quick or else the medicine will explode unless you get the medicine in the creature before it’s too late!” yelled Mr.Science. “But when exactly is too late?” asked Chad. “When it is exactly eight O’ clock is when it is too late!”Weeped Mr. Science.
Then all of a sudden the creature popped into the door way and everybody screamed “CHAD TOSS THE MEDICINE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!” “I’m waiting for the perfect shot this is my only chance and if I miss we could all die!!!” screamed Chad. Then he tossed the medicine right into that creature’s mouth. Something was happening the creature was changing! Swirls of light were zooming all over the room. All of a sudden the creature tuned into a cute little girl and she said “Hi my name is Lilley!” “What are all of your names?” She asked. Everyone was silent then Mr. Martin broke the silence. He introduced himself then the class.
Then Emma asked “Do you want to live at my house and be apart of my family?” “Sure I’ll go home with you!” “You look like a lot of fun to live with!” replied Lilley. When the school day was over, Emma took Lilley home and had a new sibling forever and that was the end of all their worries.

It all happened in 2021. It was in a town called Eville. When Evil Dr. Dork tried to take over the world but Invisible Brain Man stopped Evil Dr. Dork. Suddenly, Invisible Brain Man appeared. “You?” asked Evil Dr. Dork. “Yes me, you dork.” replied Invisible Brain Man. “But you’re just a midget in a” “I know a tuxedo.” interrupted Invisible Brain Man. “I will not go down without a fight!” yelled Evil Dr. Dork. “Then a fight you’ll have.” barked, Invisible Brain Man. He cracked his knuckles.
Evil Dr. Dork took a swing and missed Invisible Brain man. As fast as he could Invisible Brain Man pulled out his blow gun and shot Evil Dr. Dork. “I’m dying.” cried Evil Dr. Dork, as he gasped for air. It was to late Evil Dr. Dork died.
“Like the story?” asked Invisible Brain Man. “It was horrible especially where I died.”
"Now let’s get back to taking over the world." said Evil Dr. Dork. “Not so fast!” snapped Invisible Brain Man. As quickly as possible Invisible Brain Man pulled out his blowgun and tried to shoot Evil Dr. Dork but he did not pay attention. Winter Days
It was a cold winter day in 2009. The Ground was covered with frozen snow at Kayla’s park in Everett. Kristie was 11 years old and Breah was 10 years old.
They decided to go sledding together.
As Breah and Kristie were sledding down the big hill, Kristie heard Breah scream.
“Hey watch out for that tree!” It was too late Kristie already hit the tree. Breah came running to help her.
“My head hurts.” Kristie cried. “Let’s go home.” Breah said.
As they were walking home Kristie looked at Breah sadly. “I do not feel good!!” Kristie said, sadly.
When Kristie and Breah got home, they told Kristie’s mom what happened at Kayla’s Park.
Kristie’s mom went to the fridge and got her an ice pack. “Here sweetie, this will make your head feel better.” her mom said.
“Thank you mom!” replied Kristie. “I feel much better now.”

Summer Fun

An hour later, after lunch Haley was walking towards the goats. She was at the goats now .Who was that! Oh! It was Taylor her best friend in the whole wide world! Haley came over to Taylor and Taylor saw Haley. Haley shouted “Howdy!” Taylor said “Howdy!” back. “Haley do you want to go ride the rides with me?” asked Taylor. “Sure.” responded Haley. Haley and Taylor walked to the rides.
Oh no what a bummer the rides were closed. “Too bad that the rides are closed!” said Taylor. “Yah!” moaned Haley. ”Hey! Maybe we could go get some ice cream until the rides open?” suggested Haley. “That sounds great!” replied Taylor excitedly. Haley and Taylor had to walk all the way across the fair to get to the ice cream.
They headed off. First the girls walked by the rodeo that started in a few minutes. Then, they walked by the horses that were hooked to a pole. Next, the girls went to the ice cream place. Haley got chocolate ice cream and Taylor got chocolate too. A couple of minutes later, Haley and Taylor were heading back to the rides.
They walked by the horses hooked to the pole; they went by the rodeo, “Wow! The rides are finally open! Now we can ride the rides!” shouted Taylor with excitement. Then the girls walked to the ticket stand and the lady said, “The tickets are free today!” That was good. Then the lady gave each a girl 10 tickets. The octopus was 5 tickets. That was the first thing Haley and Taylor went on. Next they went on the Yo-Yo, which were 5 tickets also. Then they were done riding the rides and the girls had to go home. They were both as happy as could be.

Weekly Letter
2/20/09
Dear Parents,
Did you know we learned many different interesting things this week. If you continue to read you will be amazed by all our hard work.
First we have been working on six different bug species. The species we have been learning about are, Praying Mantis, Banded Alder Borer, Black Fly, Darkling Beetle, Orange Rumped Bee, Blue Eyed Dragon Fly, Camel Cricket, and Mosquito. We have found interesting facts like Praying Mantis are amazing killers of the insect world and Black Flies bite people and can put their larva into their skin. Also the Orange Rumped Bumble Bee makes honey and lives in nests.
We have also continued to work on writing our stories from our cartoons. Our stories are becoming extremely interesting and we will publish them on our blog so the world can read them. Hopefully we will make a book and send it home so you can read everyone’s work.
Finally we have just begun learning about x2 and reviewing x7. The class seems to be doing very well but we need to continue to study so that when we have our test next week we all pass. Today in math we learned about fractions and we used blocks to help us understand how different fractions are equal and how they can be added together. It was fun.
We hope to have a great weekend in the warm spring sunshine.

Colonial Letter
Dear, sir
Come to are beautiful Massachusetts and enjoy the good life. When you come to Massachusetts you can make a lot of money if you work hard and find a good job. If you are interested in being a farmer you are in luck. You can be a corn farmer. Also, if you are absolutely interested in being a blacksmith you are in luck.
The weather can be warm and cold. The weather conditions in Massachusetts change quickly. In January high temperatures are in the low 30s. Spring can be your favorite season because it is so pleasant. Be sure to bring warm clothes for the winters.
Next finding our colony is easy. I am in the New England colonies. To the south of us is Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
There is a lot of dangers in the Massachusetts colony. Native Americans might come into your town and steal things so be careful. Finding food sometimes is not very easy but if you are a good hunter or farmer you will be ok.
Now please come to the Massachusetts colony. You will find good jobs, wonderful weather, and it’s easy to find.

Can you believe we have finished our colonial unit and are starting to learn about insects. This is only one of the many things we have done in the last five days. First to start our new unit we looked at field guides and decided what we are going to research and put on to a poster. The poster will be like a most wanted poster. Each of us are going to become experts on a certain bug found around our area. Yesterday we watched a video to help us become more interested in bugs. Another thing we have learned this week is how to do algebra. For example 15 + N=35. To solve for “N” you minus 15 from 35 and get an answer of 20. So N=20. It’s easy once you get used to it. Now you know what we have been working on in our class. We are always busy.

Weekly Letter Home
Dear Parents,
Did you know you need to send in box tops? Why you ask? Well if our class brings the most box tops we can win a party. So please send box tops. Other than box tops are week has been very full.
First we have continued to work on our colonial project. We are making poster to show how the colonists met their survival needs. Did you know that life would not be able to survive sun, water, and plants?
Second our class has been busy learning about how to multiple. Some of us passed our x7 tests. It is important that we keep studying. We have also been learning about division and how to subtract by two which is really easy.
Finally we are making our own cartoon so that we can create a story. It has been fun and we are enjoying figuring out how to make our comic.
All in all we have had a busy week working on math, writing, and our colonial work.

Finally we are making our own cartoon so that we can create a story. It has been fun and we are enjoying figuring out how to make our comic.
All in all we have had a busy week working on math, writing, and our colonial work.

Georgia

Dear Sir,
Come to our beautiful Georgia colony and enjoy the good life. Our colony has a wonderful climate, lots of jobs, and is in a great location.
When you come to Georgia there are many jobs you can do to make money. If you want to have a lot of money grow tobacco and be a farmer. Tobacco can be sold to people so they can smoke it or chew it
You will love our wonder full weather. Summer time is always very warm you can grow great crops, swim, and fish during our warm days. In winter, it hardly ever snows so you won’t have to worry about cold weather.
Our colony is easy to find. It’s by the Atlantic ocean so you don’t get lost. But just in case it’s located by South Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Try not to go to the south of the Georgia colony or you will run in to the Spanish.
When you come to Georgia prepare for allot of hardships You have to get your food and the water sometimes is bad. So be careful. To get your food you can grow your food or shoot animals like ducks. A food you can grow is corn. Corn can be made into bread.
So in conclusion come to our colony because it has many jobs, the weather is wonderful, and it is in a good location.

Letter Home
Dear Parents,
Once again we have been extremely busy. Our brains are overflowing with our new knowledge.
First of all we learned about multiplication. We have been learning how to multiply by seven. For example 7 times 2 equals14. This is the same 7 + 7. We all need to practice our new facts every night in order to be awesome at them. At lunch we have practiced our facts by playing a free online video game called Times Attack.
Also most of us have finished our colonial letters and we are now talking about how the colonist survived. We are researching how they met their basic needs like getting food, shelter, water, and clothing. Each of us are going to make a poster exampling what we find. Our letters that are complete are posted on our blog. They are really good.
Another thing we are doing is a photo point. Our snow pile continues to shrink but we are having fun going out and taking its picture every morning. The photo point will be posted on our blog once we are done.
Finally in writing we are learning about how to write dialog. We have to use quotation marks to show when people are talking.
Anyway you should be aware that I am really tired and need to veg out all weekend because my brain hurts.

When you come to Connecticut there are many jobs you can do to make money. You could be a fine ship maker, blacksmith, farmer, silversmith, a Yankee peddler or a clock maker. There are also doctors, weavers, shoemakers, and cabinet makers.
The climate here in Connecticut is very nice. But you might want to bring something warm because of the rain. Winters here are usually long with heavy snow. Spring is short. You are in luck when summer comes around because it’s gonna be hot and humid!
Before I tell you about what to bring to wear I will tell you about fall. Here in Connecticut usually fall nights are extremely cold. You will need to bring long sleeve shirts, and pants for fall and winter. For spring and summer you probably want to bring short sleeve shirts and shorts.
Connecticut will be easy to find. Connecticut is located in New England. South of this beautiful colony is the Atlantic Ocean. North of us is the Massachusetts colony and to the west is the New York colony.
There are some things we have to do for survival. We are extremely afraid of the Native American tribe called the Pequot. But don’t worry they do not live very close. Men here work very hard in fields and forests, and tend all of there live stock. We also have to produce our own food, clothing, and tools.

New Hampshire

When you come to NH there are many jobs you can do to make money. For example you can make money by farming, fishing, shipbuilding or trading. If you choose to be a trader you can trade lumber and fish If you farm you could grow squash and pumpkins. .
The weather in NH is wonderful. The summers are short and cool. Winters are long and cold so bring warm clothes. My favorite time of the year is fall.
It is easy to get to our colony. Travel to the North and to New England and you will find are colony. To the North you will find New Hampshire and to the west is New York to the South of our colony is Massachusetts.

When you come to Virginia there are many jobs you can do to make money. One of our busiest businesses is farming tobacco in fields. Then we load the tobacco onto ships and send the tobacco to Europe. You can also make lumber, glass, barrels, boats, and tar.
Next I am going to tell you about the climate. Winters are usually mild. There are often hot summers. Virginia’s rainfall averages near 40 inches per year with 50 or more inches in the higher elevations of the mountains and in the southeast. So in the winter you could just wear normal clothes and in the summer bring regular clothes and you should also bring rain clothes for when it rains.
Now I will tell you where we are located. It is not very hard to find us. Virginia is on the Atlantic coast. Eastern Virginia is a low coastal plain and central Virginia is a plateau. To the north of Virginia is Maryland and to south of Virginia is North Carolina. The lat, and long, of Jamesville is 36˚ 69 N, 83˚ 10 W.
But you should be aware of the hardships. I will tell you some of the hardships there are. There is Native Americans that start wars and in the winter we have to store lots of food. Beware of diseases like yellow fever, small pox, measles and even the bubonic plague.

I myself would like to ask you if you and your family would like to move to Rhode Island. If you would I will tell you some information to live here.

Weekly Letter

Dear Parents,
Did you know the snow is melting fast. We are measuring the snow melt by setting up a photo point. Photo points are one of the many interesting things we did this week. First of all today many of us completed painting our colonial maps. Some of us even finished labeling them. The map shows the land forms that are found in our colony. The maps are made out of dough made from flour and salt. You mix the flour and salt together with water and it makes dough that dries hard after a few days. We also have been working on our colonial letter. We had to research the location, climate, hardships, and jobs found in our colony. Then we are writing a letter to convince someone in England to come and live in our colony. Many of us are typing the letter on the computer and a few of us have already placed the letter on our blog. Now you know we have set up a photo point, made a dough map, and wrote a colonial letter. Wow what a lot of work.

Look at What We Are Learning
Today was busy learning how to develop a photo point, painting our maps, and writing out colonial letters. Students enjoyed learning how to use digital cameras and reviewing how to read compasses and GPS.

When you come to North Carolina there are many jobs to make money. For example one of the jobs is farming tobacco. That is my favorite farming job! We got the tobacco from the Indians that we traded with. We grow lots of tobacco. We even let our kids have tobacco. If you’re not interested in that then you can be a gunsmith. A gunsmith requires the skills of a blacksmith. It also takes a long time because you have to carve the shape of the gun out of wood.
Next I will tell our climate. The climate is mostly warm. You won’t have to worry about the winter we don’t get much snow. The climate also has a lot of rain the average is 50in. I think this climate is wonderful remember bring the right gear so you don’t freeze to death.
Now I will tell you about the location. It is easy to find. North Carolina is surrounded by Virginia and South Carolina. Be sure to tell the captain this 35 46N 78 38W in the southern colonies.
